TEMPERAMENT OF THE
ALASKAN MALAMUTE

The Malamute was bred for the purpose of pulling sleds. Considering the task this dog was bred for, it is a dominating breed, not only in appearance and strength, but also in nature.

The Malamute, although loving and playful is prone to becoming bored easily. Therefore it is a must to train the dog in obedience in order to divert his attention away from destructive behaviour.

Malamutes often tend to be categorized as stubborn, untrainable dogs of limited intellect. In actual fact, the opposite is true of the breed.

Alaskan Malamutes, although agreeably stubborn by nature, have in actual fact an extremely high level of intelligence, hence their aloof demeanour.

Adequately trained, a Malamute is a dog of extreme capability. Whether it be weightpulling, dog showing or simply becoming one of the family, the Malamute is an excellent choice of breed.

In spite of its size and strength, the Malamute is not suitable as an attack or guard dog. These qualities are not a part of the Malamute's inherrent nature.

The Houdini of the dog world, the Malamute is a master of escape, therefore needs to be adequately housed in a secure shaded position.
