Bert is named after Bert Newton, the well known T.V. personality and actor, who played the part of the Wizard in the stage production of the Wizard of Oz, which played at the Lyric Theatre, Sydney, during 2001-2002.

Bert’s Dam, Ch Nawlene Zarerina was used in all the promotional material for this stage production. There was a Jitter Bug sequence in the play, so we decided to keep the Wizard of Oz theme, when naming him. The name suits Bert, as he is very animated and always on the go.

Bert carries some of the famous old Redletter lines, which are known for soundness, harsh coats and slow maturity. Hence Bert was not shown until he was 13 months of age.

He was shown at the 2003 Cairn Terrier Club of Victoria’s Specialty show under Bill Cammish from the United Kingdom. Mr Cammish is a Cairn terrier specialist and has bred Cairns for 35 years under the Camcairn prefix.

Bert won Junior Dog Class (12-18 months) from an entry of 6 exhibits.

Bert was sent to Brisbane in late 2003. He is in the care of Lesley and Kristy Roebig. Since his arrival in Brisbane, Bert has taken the terrier group by storm.

He started his show career with Multiple Classes in Group. He went on to win Best in Group and Intermediate in show at the Ladies Kennel Assn of Queensland show at Durack in late 2003.

Then to prove it was not a fluke he went out the following week and won Best in Group again, from a strong line-up of terriers.

However, it was in 2004, that Bert really made his mark. He won Best of breed at Sydney Royal under Mr Adeheimer from Sweden. He won Best in Group at Toowoomba Royal under F. Christina Browning of South Africa from an entry of over 200 terriers.

Bert continued to be in the winners’ circle consistently, winning many Best in Groups and Runner up in Groups during 2004.

He finally cracked the “big one” winning BEST IN SHOW at Brisbane Valley Kennel Club.

Bert is now placed in the “elite” of cairn terriers in Australia, having won a Group at a Royal and a Best in show at All Breeds level. He achieved all this before he has reached the age of 3 years.

He is almost to his Grand Champion title.

Bert was named #1 cairn in Australia for 2004 on the Ozdog show dog of the Year point score and #2 Cairn for 2005.

2005 was a good year for Bert as well. During the year he was awarded TWO All Breeds Runner up to Best in shows.

He won Muliple Group #1, Group #2 and Classes in Show.

Bert was Runner up Best of Breed at Toowoomba Royal 2005
Best of Breed Brisbane Royal 2005.

He has sired his first litter for us with Aust Ch Mataara One More Wish (Imp N.Z.)
